PHOTO STORY
Lyon, France

Home to legendary chef Paul Bocuse, I was excited for Lyonnaise cuisine but the city, its lifestyle and its surrounding communes were so much more.

Found myself in a 27°C Lyonnaise summer, walked the city for days, climbed Fourvière hill and partied at a cosy commune wedding an hour away.

Firstly, food. The bouchons were yum, the flavours are often intense and the dishes heavy, a must-try when in Lyon, but if the opportunity arise, Restaurant Paul Bocuse (who had sadly passed 2 years after this experience) delivers with his namesake and then more, exterior of the restaurant was unexpectedly quirky and the €275 Bresse chicken poached in a ballooned pig's bladder? Delightfully tender.

When the sun is out, the city comes alive and the Lyonese are out with their pets which is a big plus.

The city centre is easy to navigate on foot and with plenty of distractions. My favourite find was the Sunday art, antique and second-hand book market by the banks of Saône where I spent everything I had (and without a hint of hessitation).

Will I come back to Lyon? Yes. For the Sunday market? Definitely, and this time with bigger luggage!
